JUST IN: CBN retains interest rate at 26.5%
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has voted to keep the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) unchanged at 26.5 percent.
The decision was revealed following the conclusion of the committee's 306th session, held from July 20 to 21, 2026, in Abuja. All 11 members attended the meeting, conducting a thorough review of global and domestic economic conditions before agreeing to maintain the current benchmark lending rate.
By holding the rate steady, the central bank reaffirms its commitment to a tight monetary stance aimed at cooling inflation, stabilizing the naira, and solidifying recent macroeconomic progress.
