Dual-listed telecommunications giant Airtel Africa plc has notified the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE) of its latest share buyback transactions, repurchasing 799,843 ordinary shares between July 27 and July 31, 2026.

According to the official regulatory filing, the transaction was executed through Barclays Capital Securities Limited at a volume-weighted average price of 335.45 GBp per share. Individual purchase prices ranged from a low of 328.80 GBp to a high of 344.40 GBp. The company confirmed that all repurchased shares will be cancelled to streamline its overall equity structure.

This transaction forms part of Airtel Africa's share buyback programme launched on May 22, 2026, which targets the repurchase of up to 1% of its issued share capital. Since launching this tranche, the telecom operator has acquired an aggregate of 15,984,069 ordinary shares at a volume-weighted average price of 338.58 GBp per share.

The initiative builds on Airtel Africa’s track record of shareholder distribution strategies, including the successful execution of a $100 million buyback scheme that concluded in early 2026. The continuous reduction in outstanding shares has recently revised the group's total voting rights denominator to 3,632,760,281 shares as of July 31, 2026.

Looking ahead, analysts project that the reduction in outstanding share count will boost long-term earnings per share (EPS) and enhance Return on Equity (ROE) for existing shareholders. By balancing capital returns with disciplined capital expenditure, Airtel Africa remains well-positioned to maintain financial flexibility for ongoing investments in 4G and 5G network expansion, data center development, and mobile money services across its 14 sub-Saharan African markets.
